S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Past,Present and Future, Part 1:Past

Hello there as you propably all know S.T.A.L.K.E.R series is well know FPS game especially in central and eastern Europe. In this special topic I would like to talk more about this very special series that follow me over ten years. In today part I will focus more about the past which starts almost 2. decades ago when GSC firstly annouced S.T.A.L.K.E.R Oblivion Lost at that time which over the years transformed to well known Shadow Of Chernobyl.

First game of the series was well acclaimed by reviews yet in some things it was obsolete at its launch you can see it in comparsion with first Crysis here I talk especially in favor for Crysis in terms of graphics. But in the end dont we all loveS.T.A.L.K.E.R series because of its graphics and immersion ? Over the years there were two more games Clear Sky which is by many people claimed as the worst game of the series yet I played CS as the first game of the series and I love it a lot but the thing is that it added just a few new things over Shadow of Chernobyl and in 2009 Call of Pripyat got released which focused on quite big locations but there were just 4 of them (I count Pripyat underground as one of them and I skip labs because they are too small to mention it).

After Call of Pripyat people waited for new S.T.A.L.K.E.R game to be annouced and it was eventually a case when S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 got annouced.
Well it wouldnt be S.T.A.L.K.E.R if there werent any problems, so after a lot of info about story and artworks GSC annouced that game was cancelled and community at that time very pissed because they thought that new game would improved things that followed all three previous games such as instant crashes, bugs etc headed to make their own new stalker as a modification.

So now we kinda move to main topic which follows S.T.A.L.K.E.R series from the very beginning till now and will follow even further and that is Modifications. I must say that community did great job over the years for series. People started tiny mods like improving damage factor for guns to make them do few shots kill instead of shooting entire magazine to somebody to renaming weapons to its real life counter parts.

Eventually mods became bigger, they started to transform to modpacks containing new weapons,suits and even graphics. One thing we need to agree on the glory days of S.T.A.L.K.E.R mod community are over now many great mods ended their way long time ago but on the other hand Anomaly started its journey at the mid of 2018. But I mean that nowadays its mostly few big mods that adds pretty much every aspects. But 3-5 years ago you could saw almost 10-15 new additions to S.T.A.L.K.E.R mods on ModDB now you are glad for 1 or 2.

But thats a life one thing is true without mods that started to transform series into completely new games there wouldnt be Call of Chernobyl,Anomaly,Dead Air,Ray Of Hope etc. Especially Call of Chernobyl started completely new revolution in S.T.A.L.K.E.R modding so many mods from then over 6 big mods took basic template in COC. 

One thing got mentioned on discord today and I must say it described S.T.A.L.K.E.R modding perfectly- There was a mod and that mod got improved by other dev and that continued through the years. Community is always pushing because of the rivalry and thats a good thing. Like look for example on Anomaly even though that at this time Anomaly is chapter by itself rather than just improved old mod. So there was Misery mod which aimed for almost unrealistic difficulty and near that mod got released Call Of Chernobyl was released so community brought these two mods into one called Call of Misery well after some time there was bunch of people who said that they will make it even better and called it Last Day and when Searge came and he wanted to improve it to his own vision so he created Anomaly.

I must say it will be almost an year since first release of Anomaly when there was second boom for modding because of the 64 bit engine that improved everything. And since then Anomaly inspired so many guys and even some of them joined the dev team. This game series never seize to amaze me.
